The coastal, low-spreading form of our native cocoplum. Branches run sideways and root where they touch the ground, which is why it holds dune and slope better than the upright Red Tip, and why it finishes wider than it is tall. It tops out around six feet, but most jobs keep it between knee and waist height. Salt spray, wind, and alkaline sand are all normal conditions for it. The number to watch is cold: leaves mark around thirty-two degrees and it takes real injury near twenty-eight.
