A low, spreading Carissa that runs a foot to a foot and a half tall and three to four feet wide, so it fills as a groundcover instead of needing to be sheared into a hedge. It is one of the toughest things we grow for coastal work: salt exposure, alkaline soil, wind, and drought once established. Glossy dark leaves, fragrant white flowers most of the year, red fruit off and on. It carries forked spines about an inch and a half long, so keep it off tight walkways, pool decks, and anywhere hands go down.
